WHO IS REMORPHIST?

Hello...

Welcome to my portfolio website. I'm a Mixed Media freelance designer specializing in 2D illustration and Video Composition. I find myself most motivated by authenticity, the macabre, and vivid art styles. I'm a university student majoring in Video Game Design and Animation. Currently, I'm pouring all of my energy into developing an original indie horror game concept that I plan to have completed for my capstone project. This website is made mostly to support my ambitious goals and create a truly shocking and emotionally charged piece of work.

I have decided on the artist name “REMORPHIST” going forward. My name is
a combination of words:

“Re-” meaning “again, or to return to a previous state.” I selected this prefix from words such as repeat and return. These words correlate heavily with cycles and the inability to move forward, but they also have more positive meanings such as to try again or opportunity for a second chance. I want my work to encapsulate these bittersweet feelings and intricate emotions.

The word “Morph” comes from my favorite book, “The Metamorphosis” by Franz Kafka.
This book is a bleak, yet classic rendition of body horror. I've always been personally terrified of change, yet it is something that I've been trying to learn to embrace. Body horror is the embodiment of fear of change in the most authentic way possible - the body itself. While mutilation and distortion of the body isn't typically seen as art, the word “Metamorphosis” has a more beautiful meaning in nature than within my favorite book. Thus, "re-morph" became my new starting point -the idea of continuously changing.

Finally, the prefix “-ist,” being short for "artist." Like many creators, I've been drawn to the arts since birth. My pathway towards digital media specifically has never been linear... I've spent most of my life with pinhole vision on the music industry. In time I've come to realize that my true creative calling sat within the doodles I insisted upon sketching during every class. I took a leap of faith and switched majors, jumping headfirst into video game design with the new ambitious goal of developing a high-quality solo game to make a name for myself in psychological horror AND art. I've been working tirelessly to have what it takes to compete with major studios including learning 3D modeling skills, programming, and even motion capture software. Because of my love for learning, I try to utilize as many of my skills as possible in each of my pieces: artist only feels like a fitting title.

SOFTWARES

SOFTWARE

ClipStudioPaint

My software of choice for 2D illustration/animations as well as some 3D texturing. I am proficient in utilizing 3d models within this software to aid my workflow and can pump out a multitude of file formats (.clip, .psd, .jpeg, .png, etc.) for delivery. I use this program with my Wacom One drawing tablet.

Blender/3DSMax

For 3D software, I highly prefer to work within blender. Their compositor and plugins make a major difference within my texture work. I enjoy working with blender's texture nodes, lighting features, and general interface. I am also studying 3DSMax in university, so I have used this program to make the majority of my 3D work presented on this website.

Adobe Premiere

I learned Adobe Premiere back in high school, but I've continued to work with it through both my years working with music and now that I'm focused on art. I love video editing in this software, and want to continue to use it.
